Springer Spaniel Field Trial
Hall of Fame Taps Sport's Greats
When inductees were recently announced for the 2006
Field Trial Hall of Fame, several greats from the Springer Spaniel
field trial arena were tapped. David Smith served as Master of Ceremonies
for the inductions held Feb. 11, 2006, at The Bird Dog Foundation,
Grand Junction, TN. Getting the nod were three distinguished Springer
field trial persons and two stellar Springers.
Inductees included: Jim Lightfoot of Chicago, Illinois;
along with Lewis Craig (deceased) of Lebanon, Ohio,
and Luke Medlin (deceased) of Medlin, North Carolina.
The dog inductees honored were: Hales Smut formerly
owned by Arthur Cooke of Wales, U.K.; and KB's Sir Coach
owned by David Bailey and trained by Dan Langhans ( Dansmirth's
Kennels). Each received a scroll and portraits of each inductee
were presented for permanent placement in the hall. The latest join
21 distinguished persons and 21 outstanding Springers already enshrined
in the Field Trial Hall of Fame.
The hosting organization for the events, The Bird Dog Foundation,
is dedicated to preserving the past and protecting the future for
over 40 breeds of sporting dogs, including pointing dogs, flushers,
and retrievers, most of which are also involved in competitive field
trial sports across the continent. The foundation houses and operates
the National Bird Dog Museum, Field Trial Hall of Fame, Wildlife Heritage
Center, and National Retriever Museum, all under one roof at Grand
Junction, TN. Its operation is supported entirely by private donations.
The exhibits, art, and extensive natural resources/sporting dog library
are all free for the public's enjoyment and education six days per
week, Tuesday through Sunday. Learn more by visiting www.birddogfoundation.com.
