Dog World's Greats Named to Field
Trial Hall of Fame
Grand Junction, Tennessee, was astir with excitement
over the weekend of February l1'1' & 12th 2006. The Bird Dog Foundation
hosted sporting dog enthusiasts from all over North America for the
induction ceremonies of the Field Trial Hall of Fame. Ten distinguished
persons and nine deserving dogs were enshrined during the annual tribute.
Honorees for this year were selected from among Brittany, Pointer/Setter,
Retriever, and English Springer Spaniel field competitions. Hosting
the events were The American Field magazine and Purina dog foods.
A luncheon and evening reception were provided on Saturday. An estimated
400 persons took part in the day's program.
Prior to the start of the official ceremonies, the unveiling of a
new life-size bronze dog statue took place at the main entrance to
the foundation. The English Springer Spaniel Parent Club, a nationwide
organization, dedicated a fabulous statue of the stellar field dog,
Micklewood Scud. Scud, claimed by many to be the greatest field Spaniel
of all time, died in 1963. The image of the 2002 Hall of Famer rounds
out the three major bird dog varieties represented in statue on the
BDF lawn; there are now pointers, retrievers, and flushers.
Day-long festivities kicked off with David Smith, Executive Director
of the Bird Dog Foundation, acting as Master of Ceremonies. Dale Bush
of College Station, TX, President of the foundation, along with Grand
Junction Mayor, Bobby Shelby, both gave welcoming remarks to Saturday's
overflow crowd. Prior to the actual inductions into the Field Trial
Hall of Fame, twelve sporting dog enthusiasts, both living and deceased,
were given recognition by BDF Vice-President, David Fletcher of Morrice,
MI Special plaques will hang permanently in the sporting dog complex
in Grand Junction honoring each of those so recognized. Following
this were the actual inductions for the Field Trial Hall of Fame.
The program honoring all the inductees took the entire day. Guests
were treated to a reception following, courtesy of The American Field
magazine, Chicago, IL.

and the lams Corp. hosting a barbecue at the Bird Dog Foundation as
