In Memory of Jim Lightfoot
(Passed away on December 13th 2006)

We have some sad news to pass along. This morning (December 13th) Jim Lightfoot passed away. Jim wrote a popular colunm "Judging Situation" to Spaniels In The Field magazine. He was also a 2006 Field Trial Hall of Fame Inductee.

Jim, evidently had been having some problems for quite a while, but lots of people did not know.  He, was on oxygen day and night for quite a while, and of course, we had not seen him for a while either. Jim, was born in April 1929, and passed away Dec. 12th, after struggling with respiratory problems. He, bought his first springer in the mid 1960s and after many years training his dogs, won the National Amateur Championship in 1990 with BJ's Copper Penny, and then co-owned BJ's Dan of Danville with Doug Miller that won the 2005 National Open Championship Jim, served for many years as the archivist for the springer spaniel association, and led efforts to establish a new field trial competition, the Hall of Fame Classic in Tennessee.  Not, only was Jim a judge, he was a walking encyclopedia in terms of the history of the breed when it came to field trials.

In, February of 2006, Jim, was inducted in to the Bird Dog Hall of Fame in Grand Junction, Tenn., for his contributions to the sport. Born in Chicago, and when he finished highschool, enlisted in the Army Air Force as the World War II was ending. Worked for the Grand Trunk Western Railroad for 40 years. He, is survived by his wife Beverly, a son  Michael, a daughter Laura, and five grandchildren
